Tips For A Graceful Transition Into Autumn

Autumn brings expansion, contraction and transformation on physical, emotion, and spiritual levels. It brings introspection and the desire to find joy and value in our lives. It's a time for deep reflection – and is the prefect season to “let go” of what does not serve our highest good.

Life is a series of seasons and cycles and it’s pretty incredible how much the shifts of Mother Nature affect our bodies, mind and spirit. We have created Good Medicine to shift with you and to work along side Mother Nature to bring balance and centering when we need to dance, twist and twirl through life’s changes. Autumn can be a difficult time of adjustment so we have a few tips to ease the transition and help us find our rhythm.

Even though the days are cooler, it is just as important as ever to drink plenty of water. This is your skin’s best friend and will turbo-boost every skincare routine. Herbal teas are a wonderful way to warm and uplift the body and spirit. Try blends made with echinacea, jasmine and ginger to boost the immune system. Eat warm, nourishing soups and add nuts and seeds to your diet to increase healthy oils.

As the days grow shorter, the temperatures drop, and the air becomes drier, your skin may lose precious moisture. Because autumn is a time of transition, an autumn skincare routine will correct any summer damage that has occurred and prepare your skin for winter. Sun, chlorine, and saltwater may have taken a toll on your skin throughout the summer, so fall is a time to exfoliate and moisturize.

The summer sun and elements may have left your skin feeling dry and flaky. Start the new season off with a full-body exfoliation session.  SAND Red Mineral Polish is a gentle exfoliant that uses the power of yucca root to lift waste (dead cells, bacteria, etc) to the surface while sun-soaked sand removes them and gently polishes the surface of the skin, revealing fresh clean skin that is ready to absorb moisture, nourishment and the free exchange of oxygen – it's already working hard to replenish moisture levels and remineralize your skin. SAND is also wonderful for the face and should be used 1-2x a week to support a radiant complexion.

Fragrant soapy scrubs might feel (and smell) wonderful after a day at the beach, but they leave your skin dry and parched. With falls arrival, using a  gentle, soap-free hydrating cleanser is more important than ever to heal and soothe your delicate skin. It’s time to purge gels and body washes and switch to a cleanser won't strip your skin of its natural oils or disrupt its delicate pH balance. This is a great time to try oil cleansing!

As the air becomes drier, your skin needs a thicker moisturizer. Creams provide a stronger oily barrier, which means they both reduce water loss from the outer layer of skin and provide hydration to this layer of skin at the same time. We love to add a drop of two of  RAIN Replenishing Oil Wash to CLARITY Awakening Face Cream to create thicker, rich cream that penetrates deep into your skin to give you the extra moisture and protection you need in the months ahead – and you will love your fresh, dewey look!

Invest in a good hand and body cream. Hands often become dry and cracked during fall and winter. An ounce of prevention really is worth a pound of cure.  INDIGO Restoring Body Cream will moisturize and protect your hands and body now to ensure soft, supple hands all winter long. It’s unique blend of frankincense, amber and myrrh regenerates cells and protects healthy tissues. It’s wonderful to use with your positive affirmations and meditations as its deep aromas restore deep breathing, relax brain waves and calm the nervous system.

A regular practice of mindful breathing is both calming and energizing. Breath is a deep rhythm of the body that intimately connects and grounds us to the beautiful world around us. How do you do it? We always encourage you to be playful and find your own method but here is a great way to get started. Sit comfortably so your sit bones are connected to the ground. Close your eyes and breathe deeply and regularly – simply observe your breathe as it flows in and out of your body.

Here are a couple of beautiful mantras to incorporate into your day to help you easily pass through seasonal changes:

Breathing in:
"I expand and breathe deeply, inhaling the sustaining breath of life. I am love."

Breathing out:
"I release my sorrow, sadness and any pain I have felt in the past. I am courageous and strong and I live with ease and inspiration. My heart is open and I joyfully move forward with my life. I am love."
