During cold and flu season you can cross your fingers and hope you don't get sick (we hope you don't). Or you can proactively build your immune system with real, nutritious food. We will take the latter please. Won't you join us?
We love this smoothie recipe because it has everything you need to ward off those nasty bugs. Pomelo is high in Vitamin C, the almond butter provides healthy fats, and the turmeric is a fantastic anti-inflammatory. And as an added bonus, this smoothie is really yummy.
Here's what your need to make your own immunity-booting concoction:
- 3 tablespoons almond butter (we made our own)
- 1 cup chilled chamomile tea
- 1 cup ice
- 1/4 pomelo
- 1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric
- 1 cup greek yogurt (or dairy free yogurt)
- Coconut Chips, for garnish
- Cayenne Pepper, for garnish
Add all ingredients (except for your garnishes) together in a blender. Blend on medium/high speed until blended well. Pour your smoothing into a cup and sprinkle a pinch of Cayenne on top and add the Coconut Chips to garnish.
The Cayenne will work to help the body absorb the affects of the turmeric. It is also high in Vitamin A, boosts immune system, and fights infection.
Did you know that a pomelo is actually the citrus fruit the is bred with an orange to create a grapefruit? Neither did we, until now.
